Shanghai, Dibakar Banerjee’s much awaited film has already stirred up a controversy even before its release on 8th June, 2012.
The film stars Emraan Hashmi, Abhay Deol, Prosenjit Chaterjee and Kalki Koechlin and the song, Bharat Mata Ki Jai, has made the Censor Board sit up and notice. As per our sources, the Censor Board wants to be extra cautious regarding this song in terms of the lyrics and dance moves. A source close to Dibakar Banerjee stated, “Dibakar had to spend the entire day at the Censor Board office just to explain and justify why and how these lyrics were relevant in the context of the film.” The song is rendered by Vishal Dadlani and Keerthi Sagathia and has been penned by Dibakar Banerjee. It goes as… Bharat Mata ki tum jai bolo jai Bharat Mata ki jai Sone ki chidiya Dengue, Malaria Gud bhi hai Gobar bhi Bharat Mata ki jai It seems the CB had problems with the lyrics; add to that the pelvic thrusts by Emraan Hashmi and Pitobash. It was obvious that the CB will raise eyebrows! However, Dibakar got his way. The source revealed, “Dibakar was finally able to convince the CB that the song was harmless to any sentiments and got the song passed without any cuts. Bharat Mata Ki is already garnering attention and will also appeal to Emraan Hashmi’s fans.” We are sure that Dibakar Banerjee is just glad that the Censor Board has evolved.
